Wet August 2009

There's been droughts of varying degrees for each of the past four summers in Minnesota. In 2006 and 2007, August rains really helped to alleviate drought conditions. It looks like 2009 is following those years with ample rainfall over many parts of the state. Normal precipitation for the month of August ranges from 3.5 to 4.5 inches for eastern Minnesota, and 2.5 to 3.5 inches for western Minnesota. The 5.79 inches in the Twin Cities is more precipitation than the past three months (May-July) combined.
