Dry September 2009 in the Twin Cities

It's been dry so far in September in the Twin Cities. So dry in fact 2009 is now the third driest start to September. Through September 18 only .01 (one hundredth) of an inch of rain has been measured so far at the Twin Cities International Airport. The only years that had a drier start are 1996 and 1998. Both years had only a trace of precipitation recorded by September 18. Interestingly, both 1996 and 1998 had measurable rain on September 19 (.17 in 1996 and .57 in 1998). If no rain falls this Saturday the 19th, 2009 will be the driest start to September on record in the Twin Cities back to 1891.
